It used to be that a charcuterie board was an all meat board; a cheese board but with meat instead of cheese. Today, charcuterie boards are more like appetizer boards and can be as varied as your creativity and tastes permits.
If you are having a dinner party, it is the perfect opportunity to display and offer all kinds of foods to your guests.
How to Present Your Charcuterie Board
If you enjoy hosting guests, you may want to consider buying one or a few unique handcrafted boards to make your charcuterie board memorable. Here are a few examples made by hand by Mike Cousineau, owner of Cousineau Fine Jewelry.
How to Create the Perfect Charcuterie Board
Select a variety of meats and cheeses, either animal based or plant based. Mild, medium and sharp flavours give your guests the chance to combine their bites to suit their tastes. For example, a blu cheese on a herbed cracker with a slice of kalamata olive will please someone while a spicy salami on a mild cracker with a mild cheddah cheese will delight another guest.
Besides meats and cheeses, other ingredients that you can use to complete your boards include:
Crackers
Crusty Bread or Baguette
Dried fruit such as apricots or figs
Fresh fruit such as grapes, and mandarines
Olives and pickles
Dips such as hummus and tapenade
Spreads or condiments such as stone ground mustard and hot pepper jelly
Beverages & More to Accompany a Charcuterie Board
Beverages are another classy touch to complement your board at your dinner party. Wine is the traditional accompaniment to a cheese board although beer is another excellent idea and Kombucha could also be the key to making guests who don’t drink alcohol feel welcome and catered to. Soft drinks, juice and water could also be a nice touch.
Oh, last thing, don’t forget to set the mood for your dinner party with background music, candles and cocktail napkins to match the occasion or theme of your decor.
Have a wonderful and simple appetizer party with great food and drink, friends and family with your charcuterie board as the star of and the talk of the party!
